The Pretty Kitty Committee

Before there was Travis, Taylor had a little (and furry) family of her own! Taylor has always had a strong love for cats, growing up with them from a young age. It’s no surprise that when she skyrocketed to stardom, she decided to buy a cat.

In 2011, Taylor welcomed Meredith Grey into her life, named after the beloved Grey’s Anatomy star. Meredith is a Scottish fold cat who stole Taylor’s heart and her fans’ hearts. Meredith is the most reserved of Taylor’s cats and doesn’t enjoy the spotlight as much as her little sister and brother.

Meredith has made rare appearances in videos, though. Meredith is seen alongside her little sister, Olivia in the beginning of the ME! music video, and appeared in the second Midnights Mayhem with Me video when Swift announced her song, “Vigilante Shit.”

Both cats also appeared in Taylor’s commercial, which she did in partnership with DirecTV, where Taylor comes back from performing on stage, and the cats are not so happy with her.

In June of 2014, Meredith Grey became a big sister to Olivia Benson, named after Mariska Hargitay’s character on the hit television show, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Olivia is also a Scottish Fold and has appeared in numerous projects with her pop-star mom, including three music videos, one documentary, and one brand AD. At one point, she even had her own merchandise on Taylor’s website, which sold out quickly. Olivia has a net worth of $97 million, making her the world’s richest pet.

Olivia Benson is also featured as the logo for Taylor Swift productions, an in-house visual media company producing The Reputation Stadium Tour (2018), Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (2020), All Too Well: The Short Film (2021), and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (2023), amongst others.

In 2019, on the set of her ME! music video, Taylor adopted her third cat, Benjamin Button, a ragdoll cat who starred alongside Taylor and Panic! at the Disco frontman Brendon Urie in the video.

In the ME! music video, Brendon Urie is seen handing Taylor Swift a kitten as a gift to win her heart over. Behind-the-scenes footage of the music video revealed that Taylor asked on the spot to adopt him, to which his handler responded, “he is available!” and that he is a “purr-box!”

Benjamin is named after Brad Pitt’s character in the 2008 film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Benjamin is featured on the cover of TIME magazine for the 2023 Person of the Year with Swift, who posed with him over her shoulders.
